Peter Schmidt Group reached us to help them produce a set of illustrations in 2D & 3D for one of the biggest energy companies in the world. E.ON brings energy to over 47 million people over Europe so it was quite exciting to develop an illustration system that would reach so many users.
Whenever we develop an illustration system for a rebrand we design this as a tool that will be used by an external design team so it needs to be intuitive, flexible and easy to use. Having the full set of assets in a flat vector style and also in CGI gives the E.ON’s team a huge range of possibilities to tell complex or abstract stories, from informative to entertaining.

By the time the project got to us there was already a new logo and a bespoke font which we heavily relied upon to ensure that the core elements from the brand continue to live across the set of illustrated characters and backgrounds.
After carefully studying the logo and typeface we took the different movements and curves and transported these graphic elements directly into the character designs.
Both the 2D & 3D illustrations are based on the same range of shapes: 2D illustrations consist of flat, contour-free drawings with lines only used as accents when needed, while 3D illustrations are constructed spatially, with tactile textures and working along the lighting and through the lens of a CGI camera.
